Two years ago we worked to cut out all the overgrown trees and bushes. I also build a large flower bed in an area that was too difficult to grow grass. We worked hard to get the grass to grow.
Last year we bought 12 more yards of dirt to fill the garden beds and cover the hugelcukture mounds we built the previous year with all the cut wood. I shoveled the entire month of May.
This year we got a truck of wood chips dumped. Hopefully we can finish our garden paths and start mulching the flower beds. We are fortunate to live in an area with a lot of tree service companies that are super eager to get rid of their chipped wood.
If you want wood chips, call around and see if a tree service company near you will drop some off. Keep in mind you have to take the entire load and some areas may require a small fee. The first time we did this I only paid 20 dollars for about 20 yards of wood chips. So it is a really great deal.
Okay, I’ve never heard of motherwort…. but I’m going to HAVE to grow some if it’s good for anxiety.
We just got Chocolate Mint, Chamomile, Lavender and cat nip.
GREAT idea with the cups! Never thought to do it that way. We just learned the HARD way that we need a greenhouse. We planted seeds outdoors and had 3 days of intense rain. Our seeds washed out about 50 feet from where they started.
I’m stealing a lot of these ideas for next year!

You can get a decent greenhouse for a great price from harbor freight. That’s where we got ours. Just make sure to watch a few YouTube videos about it before setting it up. Growing my starts in there has increased my success with minimal effort and minimal cost. Green houses are also a great way to grow flowers for cheap for your porch or pots. You can get the same effect as a green house with a clear Rubbermaid storage tote with a few holes drilled in the bottom. Just make sure to vent the lid on warm days.
Andrea! We have so much in common; we should chat someday!
I loved your spring garden tour! I’ve done some herbs before but not the ones you’ve done.
I have also used the clear tubs with holes poked in the bottom & then used screen so dirt wouldn’t fall through the holes as easily.
I’m looking forward to the next tour!

I agree Rita! I didn’t even think about the screen, what a great idea. Hopefully we can connect and have a chat, that would be awesome.
Herbs are about the only thing I do grow but indoors as our soil is mostly clay in our yard! Maybe I’ll try a box garden with hearty soil!! Gardening is so good for the soul 🙂

I love that you grow herbs indoors! I bet they bring so much life to your kitchen. Box gardens are a pretty awesome way to get a good garden going in less than perfect conditions.
